Hi I just ordered the newer Mac Mini Thunderbolt 3 dock with two M.2 slots. I plan to put in a Gen4 drive (Western Digital) in the Gen4 slot.
If I attach an external (Gen 2 SSD) drive to the USB-C port, or one of the other USB ports, do any of these disable the use of the other M.2 slot?
If not, trying to figure out what I can put in that other M.2 slot. Would a Crucial P3 4TB PCIe Gen3 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD possibly work? This is a Gen3 but they inicate backward compatibility to Gen2. I understand that you can’t guarantee anything, but want to know if you already know it won’t work. I checked the compatibility list by the way....
Thanks much.
Hi there, The external drive should work and it should not affect any of the M.2 slot. =) Both the M.2 slots in our Mac Mini Dock are all of Gen3 specs. It's just that one of it is running on Thunderbolt 3 mode and the other is running on USB Mode. Hope the above clarifies~ =)
